Use of illegal weapons rife in Nepal


The government of Nepal permits individuals and organisations to keep pistol, revolver, and rifle, among other weapons, for security purpose. However, arms owners must renew their weapons every year at their respective district administration offices.In the past fiscal, just in Kavre district as many as 12 weapons were renewed at Kavre District Administration Office. Kavre police Chief SP Puja Singh said police had arrested 12 people and seized eight weapons this fiscal. "People are allowed to keep weapons if they take permission. However, the locals have keeping arms without permission from the authorities, "said Singh. According to Singh, the number of people registering their weapons is declining each year. Financial institutions and banks such as Nepal Bank, Rastriya Banijya Bank and Agriculture Development Bank have kept weapons for security.
